ENVIROSENSE HEPS - Energy Efficiency & Saving

ENVIROSENSE HEPS delivers real-time energy consumption data using Envirosense Technology’s innovative ENVIROSENSE technology platform.

The goal of HEPS is to assist major electrical energy consumers i.e. Manufacturers, in better understanding their energy consumption patterns, achieving energy efficiency, and lowering energy expenses.

Challenges

CHANGING TARIFFS

  • In many countries tariff schemes demand the revaluation of cost structures, which can be complex and confusing.

CONFUSING ENERGY COST

  • Reduce operating cost by optimizing customers energy consumption
  • Identify precise cost of energy overheads for your operating or product P & L.

LACK OF INFORMATION

  • Electricity bills arrive once a month without any breakdown.

ADVANTAGES OF ENVIROSENSE HEPS

ENVIROSENSE HEPS provides many benefits for buildings and facilities in terms of energy monitoring which may not be possible through traditional monitoring of electricity meters; these include:

Investigate Your Electrical Grid

  • HEPS calculates the typical kW consumption load curve, as well as the total energy spent (kVA) and the power factor.
  • This information indicates the customer’s electrical supply equipment’s utilization levels.

Save On Electrical Utility Bills

  • Electricity bills large consumers not only for total energy utilized, but also for peak demand, power factor, and time-of-use.
  • Utilizing HEPS, customers may ensure that existing electricity is used in the most effective manner possible, resulting in the lowest possible cost.

A Comprehensive Energy Profile

  • The HEPS system gives users an accurate analysis and overview of the energy profile of their building or business.
  • The data given by the HEPS is proven to be precise and comprehensive in terms of total facility energy profiling.
  • ENVIROSENSE gateway connects directly to Electricity utility meters.

Examine New Electricity Tariffs Costs.

  • The impact of any new tariff structures on the customer’s cost of electricity can be easily and accurately assessed using iHEPS, even before the new tariffs are implemented.

Data Acquisition

  • This collects energy consumption data from electrical energy metering devices located at strategic points throughout the distribution system.
  • The ENVIROSENSE gateway will collect energy transfer data (kWh and kW) from meters.

Processing, Evaluation & Recommendation

  • The processing of data – The data will be analysed to provide a detailed and accurate picture of how electrical energy is consumed.
  • An analysis and a recommendation will be provided after consultation with the facility’s technical department

Monitoring

  • The monitoring system would allow the facility’s technical management to make additional changes (Intervention) to their usage pattern and analyze the efficacy of these changes in their energy efficiency efforts with the goal of lowering their electricity bills.

HEPS Case Study

Demand response optimization – Maximum Demand (MD) mitigation. The prudent use of HEPS derived information allowed for the reduction in Max. Demand (MD) by as much as 3% for a 10 MW consumer.

This resulted in a INR 2Lacs monthly reduction in the MD portion of the monthly electrical utility bill. Another source of savings (again using HEPS) came from a shift from peak to off-peak consumption. Overall KWH consumption savings through this peak to off-peak shift additionally reduced INR 25K from the same monthly electrical utility bill.

The overall savings by implementing these energy efficiency measures (facilitated by HEPS) resulted in a total monthly saving of approximately INR 2 lacs.

The Return on Investments for this company’s HEPS investment was thus less than five months and the company continues to enjoy additional savings through longer term energy efficiency measures.

Success Stories

Customer (owner of a shopping complex) has been utilizing Envirosense Technology’s advanced ENVIROSENSE technology, via the HEPS solution, since 2010, and during that time they have been able to reduce their Maximum Demand by over 300 KW. By using the data that was acquired by the HEPS solution, Customer was able to consult with Envirosense Technology, their energy managers, and various maintenance departments to help reduce and optimize their energy usage.

Customer (owners of a shopping complex)

Customer is a large, up-market shopping center that opened in 2004. Since then it has expanded to have a sister mall right next to it in the mid of the city.

Customer is a prime example of a standard shopping mall in the SE Asia country. They have around 70 tenants in complex and around 120 tenants in another complex.

Operational challenges like high utility expenses and frequent power outages caused Customer to receive complaints from their tenants and workers on multiple occasions. The customer was unable to identify the usage patterns of their energy consumption every month, causing them to spend huge amounts of money in utilities and missed out on OPTR (Off-Peak Tariff Rider) benefits monthly. In order to receive the benefits on electricity usage during off-peak hours, max demand needed to be controlled.

In 2015, the HEPS solution was installed and Customer achieved OPTR savings and optimization of energy consumption every month by monitoring the maximum demand and load factor of their energy consumption. Through the HEPS solution, the Customer was able to monitor in real-time their energy consumption, and therefore identify and augment any energy inefficiencies within their facilities.

Customer (owner of commercial building)

The Customer is a commercial office building located right next to the iconic Twin Towers of the country. Its facilities include a covered car park, cafeteria, convenience stores and more.

In July 2010, the ENVIROSENSE HEPS solution was implemented for the customer. After installation, the HEPS system allowed them to understand their energy consumption patterns and mitigate kWh costs and Max Demand. From August 2010 – April 2011, a reduction of almost 600 kW in consumption was made. Through the HEPS solution, the customer achieved off-peak tariff rider (OPTR) savings and optimized their energy usage every month by monitoring the Maximum Demand and load factor of their energy consumption. Over a period of 3 years, they were able to reduce their Max Demand by over 1.5 MW.

Customer (owner of chemical industry)

Established in 1973, Customer (a Chemical Industry) is a company which specializes in manufacturing Chlor-Alkali chemicals, one of largest manufacturer of these products in the country. Their products are used in a variety of fields including paper manufacturing, textiles, detergents, electronics, and more.

Being a large manufacturing company, Customer utilize huge amounts of electricity on their production every month. This heavy amount of electrical consumption requires that their facilities optimize production so as to prevent inefficiencies in cost.

Envirosense Technology engaged with this customer in 2011 to install the ENVIROSENSE HEPS system to monitor their energy consumption. Utilizing the HEPS system, they were able to justify the purchase and replacement of their older chiller units to newer, more efficient units. This modification resulted in a drop of more than 300 kW in consumption. Since then, the customer has gone on to further reduce their MD by an additional 800 kW, amounting to a total reduction of 1.1 MW over a 6 year period.

Customer (owner of departmental store)

The Customer, is a large single department store in one of developed SE Asia country. The customer commenced business on 18 January 1994.

Maximum Demand Control (MDC)

Envirosense Technology develops, designs, engineers and installs a variety of solutions customized to enable precise measurement of instantaneous demand, and control demand as required to mitigate energy costs. Our innovative solutions help our customers achieve a maximum demand that conforms with their requirements to reduce monthly energy bills.
